Piedmont Park will play host to the Red Bull Illume each night from March 20th – 30th from sundown through 11PM. You can catch some world class photos from some of Red Bull’s finest photographers. All of the photos are in big light boxes that are glowing throughout the park. During the opening event, Red Bull skydivers parachuted out of a plane and as soon as they landed all the light boxes lit up. I was able to make it out on opening night to capture the Ambush team riders skating the mini ramp and putting on a show on for the crowd. During their session, some of the Red Bull photographers shot some ill photos with them. After all the madness of skydiving and skateboarding, the Ambush Crew was able to get in the VIP party where all drinks and food were on Red Bull! It was pretty dang sweet. That pretty much sums up the whole night! Here are the photos of what I saw. And, Max made a sick edit of the night too.
This past Saturday we hosted the very first contest, called March Radness, over at the new Kennesaw Skatepark. We had no clue what to expect. We were just hoping for the best and biggest to turn out. I must say it was everything we were wanting and more! People of all age groups were there. Dads competing. Girls competing. Young and old bucks blasting huge airs. Moms and grandmas watching. And, the Vans Tour bus with Tony Alva rolled through. It was great. Doing raffles throughout the day to keep families entertained. Multiple photographers and videographers covering the event. We really couldn’t ask for much more. After that, it was all up to the skating for the rest of the action, which I was able to get plenty of photos of for you guys to check out. Huge thanks to all the sponsors and people that helped make this contest bad ass!
Peak retail season is over. The hard work is done and Mazza Mondays are back in full force. There is no better way to start off 2014 than with an awesome mini ramp contest! Early morning yawns and 30 degree weather aren’t enough to stop skateboarders from coming out to compete for $500 bucks! Huge thanks to Red Bull for putting the contest together and Jonah Owings from Hazard County Skatepark for constructing a flawless mini ramp!
This is how the contest worked: two divisions (Cruisers and Shredders), 32 skaters in each division, 4 man heats with each rider getting two 45 second runs, and the best one advances. Second place winners earned $250 cash and first place winners earned $500 cash! People from all over came out to compete for that big purse money. Huge thanks to all the people and companies that came out to support the contest. This was probably one of my favorite contests that was have hosted so far. Well that’s enough rambling from me. I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking!
The time everyone has been waiting for is here. The Kennesaw Street League Skatepark is ready for shredding. Opening Day is tommorow at 10AM. Ice your ankles, rest your legs, eat your veggies, brush your teeth, and get a good night sleep ’cause it will be going off tommorow! Ryan Sheckler and Torey Pudwill, two of the nation’s top pros, with be there. Also, the Ambush crew will be on site as well! Lucky enough, the Ambush crew was actually able to get a little preview shred today!
This is just a short and sweet preview of what’s available at the park to skate! It will be a great time tommorow. Red Bull will be providing music and entertainment. Also we will be doing tons of raffles and giveaways! So, everyone come out for a fun, eventful day to celebrate this amazing skatepark! Thanks to everyone who helped out throughout the years and never gave up!
Check out the new Paradise Wheels Winter flow montage featuring our very own Catnip!
It’s still summertime and I’m living the good life.
Last weekend I rode the MegaBus up to Nashville, TN with Max and CatNip. Boy was that a good time. We did a lot of skating, met the Fully Torqued RV Tour guys and partied our asses off. To give you the info on the Fully Torqued RV Tour, it’s Clint Walker’s RV that he is living in for a whole year. Clint is traveling the U.S with people from the Ambig and Birdhouse teams. Clint Walker, Clive Dixon, Dirty the Photographer, Trevor Vaughan and filmer Trevor Owens were all out on the road together. Clint has a cousin that lives in the boonies of TN with a bunch of land. So, Clint was nice enough to pack the RV full of the three of us and all the Nashville homies and take us out there. Chugging, grilling out and shooting mad fireworks! It was an awesome time. Big thanks to Clint!
Here’s to another Mazza Monday.
A lot of fishing has been going on this summer. You can catch me on the water with Josh, Charlie, CatNip, and Max. We have been cranking them in. Fake worms, spinner baits, jigs, crank baits all seem to be working good. It’s summer time so the fish are destroying the top water baits, buzz baits, Pop R’s. Weightless worms are my favorite lures as of now. Ok, enough of the fishing BS.
Not only has the summer brought a bunch of fishing, it as well has brought a bunch of good skating! Even in this heat, we are out there all day long sweating our asses off ’til the sun goes down. This summer has been awesome! Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Kickflips, Back Tails, Back Smiths, beers, the beach, and friends. I can’t ask for anything better.
What’s up? Mazza Mondays going down this Monday. I must say its a good year for skate videos. So far we got Creature CFSU, Transworld Perpetual Motion, The DeathWish Video, Bones New Ground, and Ambig Modern Art. Its great seeing old legends, new rippers, and friends that have made it into the videos.
Creature CFSU Free copy came with the May issue of Thrasher. If you like big handrails, giant airs, high speed tranny skating and huge ditches this is the video for you! Definitely a bunch of jaw dropping material in this video! From David Gravette to Ryan Reyes to Al Partannen. This video is sick!
Transworld Perpetual Motion 25. Filmed and edited by Atlantas very own Chris Thiessen, this video is full of clean smooth editing and really great filming. A good variety technical tricks, handrails, gaps, stairs, and tranny. Not to mention a bunch of sick spots in various other parts of the world! Walker Ryan kills it. Jimmy Carlin kills it. And my favorite part, Julian Davidson. He really kills it!
Catnip is a hard character to describe. He’s like a ninja, a cat, a Jedi, and Donny from the Wild Thornberrys all rolled in to one. In most cases, he is a man of few words. Throw him on a skateboard and he’s hell on wheels, charging everything at full speed, taking slams, grinding far and flying high, all with a smile across those crooked ass teeth. “Who the hells is that little dude!?!?” is a common response from someone seeing him in action for the first time. A true skate rat, down to skate anything anywhere at anytime, never complaining, with a trick selection as odd and bad ass as himself.
Me: First things first, where the hell did you get that shirt?
