March Miracle: Time to Ride!

You know that Snowboard trip you had planned out West back in December? The one that was canned because the snow was sh*t?! Well, now is the time to re-book your ticket… The March Miracle is here!

IT’S FIRING RIGHT NOW!!

It’s DUMPING

After a mild and dry winter, most of the major mountain resorts out West in the Rockies and on up into the Northwest parts of the US were hurting for travellers to come and ride. After a very welcomed “March Miracle”, some mountains have received over 50+ inches of fresh snow and there is more on the way!!

My buddy and I were able to squeak a trip out to Sun Valley, Idaho towards the end of February. Man, did we time it right!!

We were sweating bullets towards the beginning of February when the weather report had temps projected in the mid 40’s, low 50’s.  The furthest thing from an EPIC snow trip.  But, out of nowhere, a week before our trip dates a weather pattern swept in and blessed us with stellar conditions!! The Brotherhood of Snowboarding

Being alone can be therapeutic. The silence of your self-imposed isolation can open up your mind and allow it to wander in ways that are unimaginable with the constant noise and interruptions of being among others. You are able to hear the sounds of your breathing and follow your thoughts as they crawl through your mind and into places you didn’t even know existed. When you’re alone, relaxation and revitalization come easy. Snowboarding in solitude can be strangely satisfying as well. With no one pressuring you to party the night before, waking up at dawn is painless. You make your way to the mountain at your own gradual pace, which is still somehow faster than the frenetic, rush-out-the-door pace when you are with a group of friends. You take the series of long, quiet lifts up to the peak. You hike across the ridge while the snow softly crunches under your feet. You’re living in your own private Thoreau novel as you strap on your bindings. Then, you drop in off the peak, gouge a huge turn, and immediately wish you were experiencing this with all of your closest friends. Read More >

Cataloochee Day Trips

The schedule for the next week just got posted. You check to see what your week looks like. Then, you notice you and all your friends have the same day off. It’s snowboard season. What do you do? Take a day trip to Cataloochee.

The boys hit the road last week and spent their collective day off in the mountains of North Carolina. The day started with a meet up at 6:30 am, then the 3-hour drive to Cataloochee, followed by 6 hours of snowboarding. For most of them, it was the first session on the mountain all winter. For all, it was a a great way to spend the day.

Next time you and all your homies have the day off together, make the most of it. Do something different. Do something together. And, most importantly, have fun. Read More >

Get Fitted – Snowboard Boots Done Right

Snowboard boots are the most important part of your set-up. I know, boots are not as sexy as the snowboard itself. Boots don’t have neato looking gadgets like your bindings, and they definitely won’t make as much of a fashion statement as your outerwear. So what. You better get a good pair or all of that other stuff won’t matter one bit.

Your boots serve three main purposes: to keep your feet warm, act as the main power transfer point between your body and your board, and ensure that your knees, ankles, and feet are safe and secure. If your boots don’t fit correctly, your are going to be missing one or all of these functions. Translation: a bad day on the slopes.

Everyone wants to ride comfortably, keep their feet warm and dry, perform well, and go home uninjured at the end of the day. Here is a boot fitting checklist to keep your days on the mountain epic. Read More >

Snowboard Maintenance 101

Click to view the specsThere is a popular misconception that today’s snowboards are so technologically advanced that they don’t require as much waxing and maintenance. This is NOT true. In fact, waxing your base is the easiest, cheapest, and fastest way to increase the performance and life of your snowboard.

Because we feel snowboard maintenance is so important, we have a room in the shop completely dedicated to snowboard tuning. We also have a section on our website called Tools/Tuning.

Five Reasons to wax your snowboard:
1.) Noticeable increase in speed.
2.) Noticeable increase in control.
3.) Less resistance (no more pushing at the bottom of the mtn)
4.) Reduces/covers minor abrasions that disturb riding performance.
5.) A freshly waxed board smells wonderful. Read More >
