adidas constantly surprises us with their thoroughness. Everything from their shoes, videos, ad layouts, and overall aesthetic is carefully thought out and executed nearly flawlessly. As self-proclaimed skate nerds, we love the Respect Your Roots series, which, pays homage to adidas' roots in skateboarding. After the first adidas #RYR series highlighting the iconic Superstar dropped, we began to hear the murmurs of another series being created for Skin Phillips.
Skin's story is special, he hails from a time when skateboarding wasn't the spectacle that it is today. Although skateboarding is still relatively small, without question, it was microscopic back when Skin started shooting skateboard photography in Swansea, Wales. Needless to say, when I think of Wales, I don’t think of skateboarding, I think of Welsh Corgis and John Cale...and that's about it. Seeing how early Skin has been in skateboarding photography and knowing where he's from, it's apparent; he LOVES skateboarding. So we are honored to have the chance to bring you this giveaway in celebration of his Respect Your Roots adidas Skate.
What happens when you mix a legendary photographer and a legendary skateboarder? You get an amazing photograph. The print we are giving away is a shot Skin took of Mark Gonzales' performance at the Abteiberg Museum for contemporary art in Monchengladbach, Germany from late '98.
Cheers to Skin for all his years of amazing photography and contributions to skateboarding!
Did we mention this special print is signed by Skin Phillip’s himself and is already framed. For the inner skate nerd in all of us, this is the perfect piece of skateboarding memorabilia.
